The Flight

Finally, I took this plane and stayed in the air for 11 hours to arrive San Francisco.

Also, I saw lots of flight attendants there; however, I haven't figured out why they don't really like to talk to me. Do they always look like this?

Whatever, the main point is that I took the right plane.

And, I am in America NOW!

My Luggage and My Duck

This is my last day in Taiwan. I could feel a little nervous but also a lot of excitements. I know that I don't want to leave Taiwan, but I can't wait any longer for the experience at Stanford!

To tell the truth, I am not good at doing laundry. Actually, I've never washed my cloth before, so in order to avoid this problem I brought almost all the cloth and put them into my luggage. Am I smart? :)

Of course, I know that staying abroad on my own will be pretty lonely; therefore, I asked my little duck to come with me. You know, we are really good friends.

Even if it's just a summer session for students, it's quite a big adventure for me. Going abroad alone, living alone, first time staying in American, and communicating with others by English are all big challenge to me. However, that's why this summer would be very exciting!

I'll take all the adventures and start this wonderful journey!

My First Teacher

To be well-prepared for the life in Stanford, I have been taking English courses for about a month.
My teacher, Aaron, is an American who has shared lots and lots of experiences he had from there with me.
During this period, I've learned the following things for example:
  • writing better e-mails
  • writing instant messages
  • making self-introduction
  • lots of different situations that I may be encounter of
  • different manners
He is pretty nice, which makes me feel comfortable to ask questions that I have in mind. We also discussed about cell phones, bedding, bike rental, and tipping problems. However, in the meantime, since I am an international student, he told me to just simply tell others that I don't speak good English by saying:
I'm sorry. My English is poor.
However, during the next class, he changed his mind and told me to say:
I'm sorry. My English is not good.
By the way, Aaron is a cool guy because he is very interested in I-Ching (a book in ancient China). Most of the Taiwanese don't understand the real meanings of this book because we only study it for exams. We must often question ourself about the reason why the things we don't value so much appears to a foreigner so much. What happened to our eduction?

Who I Am

Who am I?

My name is Heron Yang. I'm from Taiwan, a beautiful country off the coast of China.

This summer, in 2011, is the most precious period in my life so far, because I just graduated from high school and successfully got accepted to my future college. Of course, it is the time for me to learn how to seize the day and to enjoy my life.

I have a dream. To pursue my dream, I will go to Stanford and find the things I want: knowledge, innovative ideas, inspired people, etc.

Intro.

Hello, my name is Heron Yang.
I am going to spend my summer at Stanford in 2011.
This is a really great opportunity for me.

I write down things I see, sounds I hear, and feelings I have when I'm at Stanford.
This is the most precious summer I've ever had.
